THE PAST
One of Studebaker Owners Club new members had his introduction to Studebakers at an early age when his father used several of these World War II Studebaker Weasels. In the latter half of the war Studebaker to its own design produced over 15,000 of these.
This photo shows Harold Churchill Studebaker President in a 1960 Lark Convertible outside of its proving ground. The previous year his baby the new Lark temporarily turned the fortunes of Studebaker around. As 2009 is its 50th anniversary SOC-UK have chosen the Lark as the theme for our club stand at the Rally of the Giants, Knebworth 18th-19th July. THE PRESENT

This 1961 Hawk had sat out in the open for thirty four years. It was rescued and completely restored to its former glory taking to the road again in 2008. Although this example is from the USA SOC-UK members also bring "dead" cars back to life. THE FUTURE The Studebaker National Museum, located naturally in the 'home-town' of Studebaker, South Bend Indiana, is running several new programes designed to attract and develop, the interest of young persons. This past summer it held a design contest to come up with a new 2009 version of the original Lark. One of the two judges was Virgil Exner Jr. who had a hand in its design! Virgil is now living back in South Bend, where he grew up and attended the famous Notre Dame university. He set up its Design Courses while there. Look at the museum site: www.studebakermuseum.com Hemmings Classic Car Magazine highlights the importance of attracting a new generation of old car enthusiasts. As they say, "There are many possibilities for a child to get "hooked" in spending their time in the 21st century. Let's make sure we do our part in ensuring that it will be in the delights of the old cars that our generation has enjoyed!"
